Due to the beatings by the SS officers as they enter Majdanek concentration camp, the prisoners can only think of survival at that time --- this was to keep their mind off from escaping.

Majdanek - The Crematorium

Sarcophagus memorial in crematorium -  A stone coffin containing ashes and bones of prisoners killed in the crematorium was on display.

The camp was liquidated in July 1944, but the crematoria were all that could be destroyed before the Soviet Red Army arrived, making Majdanek the best-preserved camp of the Holocaust. Although 1,000 inmates were evacuated on a death march, the Red Army found thousands of inmates, mainly POWs, still in the camp.  They also found enough evidence of the mass murder that had occurred there.
