Notes from the author....
This website is designed as part of my project for Exploring the
Holocaust in Education, taken in the Summer of 2006 at the
University of Kentucky.
The memorable journey we
took to Poland from March 22-29, 2006 was the main focus of this
course. I would like to dedicate this website to the participants of
March of
Remembrance and Hope 2006,
most of whom who went to this trip with me are undergraduate and graduate students from the
College of
Education, University of
Kentucky, as well as to our instructor and group leader Professor
Beth Goldstein. The
March of Remembrance
and Hope is an educational leadership initiative designed to "teach
students of different religious and ethnic backgrounds about the
dangers of intolerance through the study of the Holocaust, and to
promote better relations among people of diverse cultures." (Source: MRH website)
I
am also thankful to Joe Kelly from the Columbia Gas and the
Office of International Affairs
at the University of Kentucky for the scholarships that
made it possible for me to embark on this wonderful journey to
learn more about the Holocaust.
Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few MRH
participants, without whom I am unable to present to you some of the
most amazing photos taken during this journey: Tiffany Wdowiarz, Marci
Fritts and Allison Loftis. I've tried my best to mention the
name of the photographer for each photograph. I
would also like to thank Karen Clancy and Jerry Summerfield for their
photos and reflections that accompanied those photos. In
addition, I thank Anna Fields for allowing me use some of her trip
notes for the website. Last but not least, I would also like
to thank my families, both in the U.S.A and Malaysia, and also my
colleagues in the UK Office of Assessment
for all their encouragement and support. Enjoy your visit to
my website!!!
