The Jasna Gora Monastery

Jasna Gora Monastery --  Czestochowa
The Bright Mount or better known as Jasna Gora in Polish is a monastery situated in Czestochowa, a city with a population of 300,000 and about 90 minutes’ drive northwest from Krakow. Every year, many people visit the Jasna Gora monastery to pay pilgrimage to the extraordinary picture of Our Lady of Czestochowa, or the Black Madonna (Czarna Madonna or Matka Boska Częstochowska in Polish).  It was believed that Saint Luke the Evangelist, painted the divine icon on a tabletop from the Holy Family’s house. Many people are said to have their prayers heard.  Their gratitude was evident by the countless votive offerings and small thank you notes and gifts left at the monastery.
